A cat that does not keep themselves clean often has medical problems. One common problem is being too overweight to reach areas that need to be groomed. In other situations the cat does not feel well and is unwilling to engage in the normal grooming behavior. If the cat does not begin to groom themselves again, they should be examined by a veterinarian to determine if an illness is the cause of the non grooming behavior.
