Is the litter box covered? Many cats HATE these, because 1) they can’t see out and fear they’ll be ambushed, and 2) it contains the smell and can be off-putting. If the litter box has a lid that you can remove, take off the lid.
Cats also seem to choose the texture/substrate they like best. If she’s using your patio (it has sand?), try sprinkling some of this same material on top of the litter. That may convince her it’s the right place to use the bathroom. You might also place a bit of her waste inside the new litter box so that the smell gives her the proper incentive.
Finally, where have you located the litter box? She may want it in a more private place–or even in a more public place. If she likes using the patio, try placing the litter box on the patio until she gets used to using it and only then move it to a more preferred location.
