Some cats and kittens will do this. When they are happy and purring, they may drool or their nose may run. I don’t think anyone has ever been able to fully explain it. I suspect they become so relaxed that those little glands relax as well!

Anytime a murmur is heard, an echocardiogram (an ultrasound of the heart) is the best thing to do. A murmur can be caused by many things. In some cases it’s considered an “innocent” murmur, meaning there are no changes in the heart to explain it. In other cases, a murmur can be a symptom of […]

We see this every once in awhile, often in older cats. It could be related to his medication - either a systemic change or a change in his saliva. Sun bleaching is an option. Behaviors that are rewarded get repeated. A cat is quickly able to learn which combinations of words work out well for them. If whenever they hear “do you want to eat?” food appears they will always run to the food bowl anticipating their food and if food is given, they are likely to repeat […]

Kittens that are quite young can already retract their claws. However, they often use their claws for climbing, playing and defense. As they get older and have better jumping ability many rarely use their claws. By providing an appropriate scratching post in the right place nearly all kittens can learn to confine their scratching behavior […]
