I have a nine year old, totally indoor, rescued female tabby. Twice in the past six…
Oh my. Thus far, 100 percent of the attacks have taken place while you were on the phone, correct? We can’t know exactly what sets Ellie off. It could be an unconscious action you make while chatting, or something she hears from the other end of the line, or something totally unrelated. But I’d take precautions at these times, when you are on the phone.
When you must make a phone call, make sure that Ellie is in another room and close the door. Leave a heavy, soft clean towel near the phone so that if it rings with Ellie nearby, you can gently drape the cloth over top of her before you answer. That will prompt her to pay more attention to the towel and get out from under it (and away from you). In time, Ellie may actually learn to cross the room away from the ringing phone to avoid this.
