My 12 year old male cat developed a gum infection, was treated with a round of…
Sorry to hear your cat is having gum and teeth issues. Dental cleanings are important but it should be noted that they are not always a one time thing.
Cats with a tendency towards dental disease often need multiple, sometimes even yearly, dental work. With that said, it seems unusual that your cat would need a second cleaning within two months of his last one. Unfortunately, there’s no easy way to know if he got good dental cleaning the first time unless you did a careful inspection before and after. I would be concerned his gingivitis, drooling and halitosis could be due to another reason or that the gingivitis may be more immune mediated rather than due to just dirty teeth. It would be easier to give you a better opinion if I could see your cat, but it is an option for you to get a second opinion elsewhere. Even if they agree with your current vet, it’s always nice to just have things confirmed or to get other options. Hope this helps.
